Remove Short Leash

On this page

Removing Short Leash takes two steps: undo the system changes setup made, then delete the app and its data if you want to.

Remove the system changes

Settings › Remove › Remove system changes… undoes exactly what setup did. Your projects, databases and downloaded runtimes stay where they are.

On a Mac you'll be asked for your password once. It:

  • removes /Library/LaunchDaemons/dev.shortleash.daemon.plist and frees ports 80 and 443
  • removes /etc/resolver/test
  • removes the Short Leash certificate authority from your login keychain

On Windows, Windows asks you to allow changes once. It:

  • removes the name resolution rule that sends .test to Short Leash
  • removes Short Leash Local CA from your user's trusted root certificates

Delete everything on a Mac

After removing the system changes:

  1. Quit Short Leash and move it from Applications to the Trash.
  2. Delete Short Leash's data folder, which holds runtimes, service data, downloaded AI models (several GB each), meeting notes, chats, certificates and settings: ~/Library/Application Support/Short Leash. This deletes your Short Leash databases too, so back up anything you need first.
  3. If you turned on Use Short Leash's php and composer in new terminal windows, remove the block marked “Short Leash” from ~/.zshrc (or turn the switch off before you delete the app).
  4. If you connected your own sharing domain, choose Disconnect in Settings › Sharing first, or delete the leash-… tunnel in your Cloudflare dashboard.
  5. To remove the permissions macOS gave Short Leash (microphone, Accessibility, screen and system audio recording), run tccutil reset All dev.shortleash.app in Terminal.

Delete everything on Windows

After removing the system changes:

  1. Exit Short Leash from its tray icon, then uninstall it in Settings › Apps › Installed apps.
  2. Delete Short Leash's data folder, %LOCALAPPDATA%\Short Leash, which holds runtimes, service data, downloaded AI models (several GB each), meeting notes, chats, certificates and settings. This deletes your Short Leash databases too, so back up anything you need first.
  3. If you turned on Short Leash's terminal option, turn it off first, or remove Short Leash's bin folder from your user Path.
  4. If you connected your own sharing domain, choose Disconnect in Settings › Sharing first, or delete the leash-… tunnel in your Cloudflare dashboard.

If Short Leash is already gone, Short Leash on Windows shows how to undo its changes by hand.
