Home: what needs you across your sites
Home is the screen Short Leash opens on: one page across all your sites that starts with what needs you, then shows how every site has done today, what's running, the slowest routes and what it caught most recently. It's first in the rail on the left.
It opens on four tiles at a glance: how many sites are serving, the day's requests and server errors, and the slowest site's P95, each with its trend over the last 24 hours. A tile with something wrong has a red edge on top and says what in red. Under the sites' lamps, the first tile says how many failed, or how many aren't serving, such as "1 not serving", or "All running". The last three show once your sites have had traffic.
What needs a look?
Needs a look lists what's wrong right now: a site or service that couldn't start, with why; a port another app holds, with the app's name and its process id, and what to do (quit it, then try again; Short Leash never stops it for you); what a site's Overview lists under its own Needs a look, such as migrations that haven't run (as the site's Overview last found them: Home doesn't run artisan itself) or an app that isn't answering on its port; and a newer Short Leash, when the daily check found one. From the Monitor, it adds new exceptions (back end or browser), jobs that failed today, routes that got slower than over the last 7 days, and N+1 queries found today. When there's nothing, it says so in one line.
Each one is a single line: a red lamp for a failure or a triangle for something to look at, what happened, cut to fit, and how long ago it last happened. Click the line to go there: the Monitor, a request's trace, the site's Overview or its log. Something you can fix from Home has its button on the line, such as Start, Try again or Update and restart. When there's more to it, the chevron at the end opens the rest in place: all of the message, what Short Leash knows about it (such as "Backend, 4 times since 18:24"), and the way there in words, such as Open trace or Open in Monitor.
When the same thing happens on several sites, it's one line, such as "artisan migrate:status failed on 8 sites today". This applies to a job or command with the same name, an exception with the same message, and the same check on several sites' Overviews. Its chevron lists the sites, newest first, each opening its own last run (for a check, each site's Overview, with how many more it lists).
Home shows the first five lines, failures first. Show 3 more (or however many there are) shows the rest, and Show fewer puts them away. The number beside the title counts the lines.
What does Home show from the Monitor?
Once your sites have had requests, Home adds what the Monitor saw:
- All sites, last 24 hours: a chart of every site's requests and server errors, hour by hour.
- Across your sites: a row for each site, what needs attention first, with its requests, P95, errors, status mix, its 24 hours and its slowest route.
- Slowest right now: the slowest routes in the last hour, by P95.
- Front end: the pages with the worst Web Vitals today (LCP, INP and CLS, at P75).
- Canonical tail: the latest canonical log lines, live, with Open canonical log.
At the foot, a line says how much Monitor history is kept and how far back it goes, and opens Settings › Monitor. Before your sites get any requests, Home says what will show once they do.
What else is on Home?
- Running now: your running sites and services. A shared site shows its cyan lamp and its public address. Everything running opens the full list, with memory, to stop things.
- Last hour: a row for each site that answered requests in the last hour, with its requests and errors and a small chart for every five minutes. Sites with no requests aren't listed.
- Just caught: the latest mail and dumps, a slow query among them. Each opens where it lives, marked.
Every row is a link to its site, service, route, trace, email or dump. The numbers come from what Short Leash already records: nothing on Home reads your projects or runs Git.
